Dann, Hamish, and the team came out to perform a complicated three phase and board upgrade, including sub boards in my sheds. I found the whole team to be polite, and hard working. It was a very challenging job, but Dann's team did not compromise on quality or safety. I'm impressed with thier professional approach to the job, and they left the site tidy and clean. I will absolutely be calling them again next time I need works done.

Highly recommend Ben from Danns Electrical, we couldn't be happier with his service. Ben quickly came up with solutions for our issues and did a fantastic job installing sensor lights and power points. He provided excellent, reliable and professional service, we wouldn't use anyone else. 5 Stars

Exceptional electrician, experience really makes all the difference! We honestly cannot recommend Dan highly enough! We'd been dealing with an incredibly frustrating, intermittent electrical issue in our kitchen for ages. The power would trip seemingly out of nowhere, sometimes only once every six months, making it almost impossible to pinpoint the cause. We'd spent so much time troubleshooting, unplugging appliances and trying to work out what on earth was going on. Just when we thought we'd figured it out, the problem would eventually happen again! We finally called Dan, and honestly, we were absolutely mind blown. Within less than five minutes of arriving, he had figured out the issue! After all the time we'd spent scratching our heads over it, watching him identify the problem so quickly was incredible. It really showed us the difference that genuine experience, technical knowledge and expertise make. What had been an ongoing headache for us was something Dan was able to work through almost immediately. We're so glad we called him. It's such a relief to have someone who genuinely knows their trade and can get to the bottom of a problem without hours of guesswork. If you're looking for an electrician who knows what they're doing, is experienced and can troubleshoot those frustrating electrical issues that others might struggle to pinpoint, give Dan a call. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend him and will absolutely be using him again. Thanks, Dan, you've earned every one of these five stars!

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. I hired Dann's Electrical to perform a switchboard upgrade at my home in Oct 2026. Communication from the outset was phenomenal and they instilled more confidence than the 3 other competitive others I'd invited to tender for the works. Pricing was more competitive to boot. When Dan's tradesman Hamish and apprentice Cody rocked up with the new board, due to unforeseen circumstances, it quickly became apparent that there was much more to the job than had initially been expected. This is after the Level 2 electrician had disconnected us from street power and left. There was no turning back now. Without going into too much detail, Hamish and Cody's day had gone from a reasonably paced knock-off-on-time job to an "oh f*************k" kinda day. Not once did the boys grumble or moan or swear (as I certainly would have.) Nor did they let a moment go to waste. They were in it now and they didn't stop until the job was done. Upon finishing the job, I couldn't fault a single thing from their professionalism, the presentation and cable management of the new board to their clean-up effort at the end of the job when all they would have wanted was to go home a take a long shower in silence to wash the helluva day off 'em. BONUS POINTS! As with any older home, some of the building materials the fellas encountered were aged out and brittle: a roof tile broke as they were putting it back in. What did they do? Silicon up the remains and not let me find out until the next big rain because "where are we going to find a replacement for a 40+ year old tile?" Nope! The industrious young blokes jumped on fb marketplace, miraculously tracked down a local seller who had something that matched and drove out to his place to pick up a replacement (with a spare for me to keep.) I said at the top of this spiel that if i could give 5 stars, I would. I hope you now understand why. Dan, if you're reading this: don't let Hamish and Cody out of your sight. Any employer would be lucky to have 2 young guns of this calibre in their stable. Hats off, boys!

Dan came out to my place early on a Saturday morning to fix problems with the wiring in my switchboard, so we could get our power back after a storm. He got us going and provided advice on what we might want to look at upgrading. Dan was very nice and, arrived when he said he would, and did a great job.

Katoomba local knowledge

Local facts for Katoomba property owners

Facts from government and utility sources, and what they mean for your power. Each card links to its source.

Fire season is coming. Is your meter box ready?

33,000
Blue Mountains homes on bush fire prone land (NSW RFS)

Fire season generally runs from September to February, according to the NSW RFS. If embers or a storm damage the meter box or wiring at your Katoomba home, leave the power off and have it checked.

Lights flickering or breakers tripping? Get the wiring checked

Up to 1,800
NSW house fires a year that wiring checks and safety switches could prevent

NSW Government figures say up to 1,800 house fires each year could have been prevented by getting the wiring checked and having safety switches installed. We test switchboards, safety switches and wiring for homes in Katoomba, 24/7 if it can’t wait.

Heaters on all winter? Make sure your circuits can cope

2.7°C
average July minimum, Katoomba (BoM)

July nights in the upper Mountains average under 3°C, with July days around 10°C. If breakers trip when the heaters are running, get your board and circuits checked.

Adding an EV charger? Check your supply can handle it

1.4
vehicles per Katoomba dwelling (2021 Census)

Katoomba homes average 1.4 cars each, and 81.8% are separate houses, which usually have their own switchboard and supply. Check your board can take a charger first.

Own a rental? Hard-wired smoke alarms need a licensed electrician

33.5%
of Katoomba homes are rented (2021 Census)

NSW landlords must check smoke alarms every year, replace them within 10 years of manufacture, and use a licensed electrician to repair or replace hard-wired ones.

Got a power pole on your property? Its upkeep is on you

3 metres
safety distance to keep yourself from powerlines (Endeavour Energy)

If your block has its own power pole, Endeavour Energy says it’s yours to maintain. Inspect it before bushfire season. Repairs that disconnect at the point of supply need a Level 2 ASP.

Katoomba FAQs

Katoomba electrician questions

Ask us anything
Is there a 24/7 emergency electrician in Katoomba?

Yes. Dann’s Electrical runs a 24/7 emergency service across Katoomba and the Blue Mountains, including nights, weekends and public holidays. Call 0478 014 622 for power outages, sparking outlets, burning smells or a switchboard that keeps tripping. If anyone is hurt, call 000.

Who do I call if the power is out in Katoomba?

Call us any time on 0478 014 622. First check whether your neighbours have power. If they do, or only part of your Katoomba property is out, the fault is on your side and we can find and fix it, 24/7. If the whole street is out, it’s a network outage.

Are your electricians licensed and insured?

Yes. Dann’s Electrical is a licensed NSW electrical contractor with full insurance. We’re CM3 certified, NECA members and a Level 2 Accredited Service Provider, and the team holds current Working With Children Checks.

A storm or fire has damaged the power at my Katoomba home. What now?

Keep well clear of any fallen powerlines. If the meter box, switchboard or wiring is damaged, leave the power off and call us on 0478 014 622 so we can check it before anything goes back on. If anyone is hurt, call 000.

Is the power pole on my Katoomba property my responsibility?

If it’s privately owned, yes. Endeavour Energy says private poles and lines are the property owner’s responsibility, and recommends an inspection before bushfire season and after major storms. It says to keep a 3-metre safety clearance from powerlines, and owners look after trees near lines on their land. A repair that means disconnecting at the point of supply needs a Level 2 Accredited Service Provider, which we are.

What’s a Level 2 electrician, and do I need one?

You need one for work on the network side of your property: connecting and disconnecting power, repairing and upgrading service lines, and metering. Regular electricians can’t do this work. A Level 2 electrician is an Accredited Service Provider, and Dann’s holds Endeavour Energy authorisation for service line work and Plus ES authorisation for contestable metering.

What do landlords in Katoomba need to do about smoke alarms?

Under NSW rules, landlords must check smoke alarms every year, replace removable batteries each year, replace alarms within 10 years of manufacture, and use a licensed electrician for hard-wired alarms. 33.5% of Katoomba homes are rented (2021 Census).

Can you install an EV charger in Katoomba?

Yes. Katoomba households average 1.4 cars (2021 Census). We install home chargers including Tesla and Evnex, and check your switchboard and supply can handle the extra load first.

Do you work in suburbs close to Katoomba?

Yes. Close to Katoomba, we regularly work in Glenbrook, Blaxland, Warrimoo, Valley Heights and Sun Valley, and we cover the rest of the Blue Mountains too.

Can you handle commercial jobs as well as homes?

Yes. Alongside home repairs, switchboards and EV chargers, we do fit-outs, test and tag and maintenance on commercial and industrial sites for businesses, schools, strata and asset managers.

What is a CCEW, and will I get one?

It’s the Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. NSW electricians must submit it through Building Commission NSW’s eCert portal no later than seven days after completing the work, including the safety and compliance test. We lodge one for every job that needs it and send a copy to you.

Do your installs come with a warranty?

Yes. Switchboards we install carry a 25-year warranty and lighting carries 7 years, with parts and labour covered.
