What an electrical fault costs a food business
Food safety and workplace electrical rules from the NSW Food Authority and the NSW Government.
The 2-hour/4-hour rule limits how long food can sit out
4 hours
before food must be thrown out
Under the NSW Food Authority’s 2-hour/4-hour rule, potentially hazardous food out of temperature control for 2 to 4 hours can still be used but can’t go back in the fridge. After 4 hours it must be thrown out.
Swapping an oven? It still needs a CCEW
Like-for-like
replacements still need a certificate
The NSW Government says a CCEW is needed even for like-for-like replacement of equipment such as water heaters, ovens and stove tops.

Can you do upgrades without closing the venue?
Yes. We schedule planned work after close and hand the kitchen back before morning prep.
How often should kitchen equipment be tested and tagged?
SafeWork NSW’s Code of Practice treats commercial kitchens as a higher-risk environment, where plug-in equipment should be tested at least every 12 months. AS/NZS 3760 sets the detailed intervals, and we’ll set a schedule for your venue.
Do I need a compliance certificate for a new oven?
If it’s hard-wired, yes. In NSW a CCEW is required even for like-for-like replacement of equipment like ovens and stove tops, and it must be lodged through the BCNSW eCert portal.
How much will it cost?
Site assessments are free, and our work is fixed price. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so the price you agree to is the price you pay. There are no hidden fees.

Yes. Dann’s Electrical is CM3 certified. Cm3 is a contractor prequalification platform businesses use to assess a contractor’s safety and compliance before engaging them.
