Signage rules
NSW signage rules for illuminated signs.
The NSW Planning Portal says exempt development generally can't be carried out on a building on the State Heritage Register or under an interim heritage order.
The NSW Planning Portal allows up to 6 business identification signs on a building (3 if it has one commercial tenant) for signage to count as exempt development.
NSW Planning says you must have consent in writing from the owner of the land where the sign will be located, and some sign types, including wall and building identification signs, must not be on a heritage item.
Where we work
No, our partner Neon Lanes designs and makes the sign. We handle the installation: mounting, power, hardwiring, testing and any timer or dimmer.
If the sign is hardwired, yes. In NSW you need an electrical licence for any electrical wiring work.
Yes. We install outdoor signs with suitable mounting, cabling and connections. Outdoor and street-facing signs may also need to meet council signage rules.
Some signs can go up as exempt development, but there are limits, for example no flashing, a maximum number of signs, restricted hours near homes, and generally no exempt signs on State Heritage Register buildings. Check with your council if you're unsure.
It depends on the sign size, the wall and how far power needs to run. We give you a fixed install price before we start, with no hidden fees.
