Dann, Hamish, and the team came out to perform a complicated three phase and board upgrade, including sub boards in my sheds. I found the whole team to be polite, and hard working. It was a very challenging job, but Dann's team did not compromise on quality or safety. I'm impressed with thier professional approach to the job, and they left the site tidy and clean. I will absolutely be calling them again next time I need works done.

Highly recommend Ben from Danns Electrical, we couldn't be happier with his service. Ben quickly came up with solutions for our issues and did a fantastic job installing sensor lights and power points. He provided excellent, reliable and professional service, we wouldn't use anyone else. 5 Stars

Exceptional electrician, experience really makes all the difference! We honestly cannot recommend Dan highly enough! We'd been dealing with an incredibly frustrating, intermittent electrical issue in our kitchen for ages. The power would trip seemingly out of nowhere, sometimes only once every six months, making it almost impossible to pinpoint the cause. We'd spent so much time troubleshooting, unplugging appliances and trying to work out what on earth was going on. Just when we thought we'd figured it out, the problem would eventually happen again! We finally called Dan, and honestly, we were absolutely mind blown. Within less than five minutes of arriving, he had figured out the issue! After all the time we'd spent scratching our heads over it, watching him identify the problem so quickly was incredible. It really showed us the difference that genuine experience, technical knowledge and expertise make. What had been an ongoing headache for us was something Dan was able to work through almost immediately. We're so glad we called him. It's such a relief to have someone who genuinely knows their trade and can get to the bottom of a problem without hours of guesswork. If you're looking for an electrician who knows what they're doing, is experienced and can troubleshoot those frustrating electrical issues that others might struggle to pinpoint, give Dan a call. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend him and will absolutely be using him again. Thanks, Dan, you've earned every one of these five stars!

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. I hired Dann's Electrical to perform a switchboard upgrade at my home in Oct 2026. Communication from the outset was phenomenal and they instilled more confidence than the 3 other competitive others I'd invited to tender for the works. Pricing was more competitive to boot. When Dan's tradesman Hamish and apprentice Cody rocked up with the new board, due to unforeseen circumstances, it quickly became apparent that there was much more to the job than had initially been expected. This is after the Level 2 electrician had disconnected us from street power and left. There was no turning back now. Without going into too much detail, Hamish and Cody's day had gone from a reasonably paced knock-off-on-time job to an "oh f*************k" kinda day. Not once did the boys grumble or moan or swear (as I certainly would have.) Nor did they let a moment go to waste. They were in it now and they didn't stop until the job was done. Upon finishing the job, I couldn't fault a single thing from their professionalism, the presentation and cable management of the new board to their clean-up effort at the end of the job when all they would have wanted was to go home a take a long shower in silence to wash the helluva day off 'em. BONUS POINTS! As with any older home, some of the building materials the fellas encountered were aged out and brittle: a roof tile broke as they were putting it back in. What did they do? Silicon up the remains and not let me find out until the next big rain because "where are we going to find a replacement for a 40+ year old tile?" Nope! The industrious young blokes jumped on fb marketplace, miraculously tracked down a local seller who had something that matched and drove out to his place to pick up a replacement (with a spare for me to keep.) I said at the top of this spiel that if i could give 5 stars, I would. I hope you now understand why. Dan, if you're reading this: don't let Hamish and Cody out of your sight. Any employer would be lucky to have 2 young guns of this calibre in their stable. Hats off, boys!

Dan came out to my place early on a Saturday morning to fix problems with the wiring in my switchboard, so we could get our power back after a storm. He got us going and provided advice on what we might want to look at upgrading. Dan was very nice and, arrived when he said he would, and did a great job.
Smoke alarms

Smoke alarms installed by licensed electricians

Every NSW home must have at least one working smoke alarm on every level of the home. Hard-wired alarms run off your mains power with a battery backup, and only a licensed electrician can install, repair or replace them.

We install new alarms, replace expired ones and link them together so one sounding sets off the rest. For landlords and property managers we check alarms, replace them before they reach 10 years and keep the paperwork you need.

Smoke alarm rules

NSW smoke alarm rules

What the law says for homes and rentals, from Fire and Rescue NSW and the NSW Government.

Every home needs alarms on every level

1 per level
minimum on every level

Fire and Rescue NSW says at least one working smoke alarm must be installed on each level of every NSW home.

Landlord? Alarms must be replaced within 10 years

10 years
from the date of manufacture

NSW landlords must replace smoke alarms within 10 years of manufacture, or earlier if the manufacturer says so, and check them every year.

Alarm broken in a rental? Fix it within 2 business days

2 days
business days to repair or replace

NSW landlords must repair or replace a smoke alarm within two business days of finding out it isn't working, and use a licensed electrician for hard-wired alarms.

No alarm is the biggest risk

56%
of fatal NSW home fires had no smoke alarm

Fire and Rescue NSW says 56% of fatal home fires between 2000 and 2014 happened in homes with no smoke alarms. A fire can take hold in as little as three minutes.

Working alarms save lives

21
average deaths in NSW home fires each year

Fire and Rescue NSW says an average of 21 people die in residential fires in NSW each year, and a third to a half of those deaths may have been prevented by working alarms and an escape plan.

Linking alarms gives earlier warning

Recommended
by Fire and Rescue NSW

Fire and Rescue NSW recommends interconnected alarms for a higher level of protection, so every alarm sounds when one detects smoke.

FAQs

Smoke alarm questions

Ask us anything
How many smoke alarms does my home need?

NSW law requires at least one working smoke alarm on every level of a home. Fire and Rescue NSW recommends a higher level of protection, such as interconnected alarms. We'll tell you what your home needs.

Do I need hard-wired smoke alarms?

Not always. NSW law requires a working smoke alarm on every level of the home, and many existing homes use battery alarms. Hard-wired alarms run off your mains power with a battery backup, so they keep working if the backup battery runs flat, and they can be interconnected so one sets off the rest. Only a licensed electrician can install them. In a rental, a hard-wired alarm must be repaired or replaced by a licensed electrician.

Do I need interconnected smoke alarms?

Fire and Rescue NSW recommends interconnected alarms for a higher level of protection: when one alarm detects smoke, they all sound. We can link new and existing hard-wired alarms.

How often should smoke alarms be replaced?

Within 10 years of the date of manufacture, or earlier if the manufacturer says so. The date is printed on the alarm.

What are a landlord's smoke alarm obligations in NSW?

NSW landlords must check alarms every year, replace them within 10 years of manufacture, repair or replace a faulty alarm within two business days, and use a licensed electrician for hard-wired alarms. They can't hand that responsibility to the tenant.

Do you work with property managers?

Yes. We work directly with agents and strata managers, arrange access with tenants and send the paperwork through.

How much will it cost?

Quotes are free, and our work is fixed price. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so the price you agree to is the price you pay. There are no hidden fees.

Are your electricians licensed and insured?

Yes. Dann's Electrical holds NSW electrical contractor licence 399632C and carries $20 million public liability insurance. We're CM3 certified and NECA members.
